December 25, 2016 – God Is With Us

Pastor Jeff Purganan

Scripture:

Key Point:

  • Speaks to a government of peace?  Hard to imagine a land where the law of love is what presides.
  • Strange tradition, celebrating a baby, rather than celebrating Jesus!  We don’t do that with ourselves.  We do it to image the government being on baby Christ’s shoulders.
  • This takes quite a bit of imagination of what a government of peace could be if based on love: people providing for the poor – giving and feeding.  We are a people giving joy, comfort.  Giving peace. Giving gifts.
  • Baby Christ is God’s placement of light in the darkness.  It’s celebrating and imaging what it should be, what we should be proclaiming: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

December 18, 2016 – Something Worth Waiting For

Pastor Trevor Smith

Scripture:

Key Points:

  • What if I was to take pastoral care to another level?  To repeatably minister and expect
  • Pavlov: observed dogs conditioned to behave based on anticipated action.
  • What if we came to anticipate something during the Christmas season, we exhibit a behavior this time of year.
  • At Advent, we should be expecting Love, ready to devour.
  • Look at the story of Ahab – God’s sign – a promise: Love!
  • Unfortunately, we need signs of God’s Love.  We need to remind ourselves to celebrate this season, of Love.

December 11, 2016 – The Way of the Lord

Pastor Jeff Purganan

Scripture:

Key Points:

  • The unclean will not journey on it… wicked fools will not go about…
  • We are given a path to God.  If we have ever been lost and found the path again, we don’t want other people to be lost in the wilderness.  We want to show people the way to the Lord.
  • When we are on the path, it is difficult for the wicked to be on the path.  However, there’s an opportunity for us to welcome them to show goodness and holiness… the way of the Lord.
  • Don’t claim this path for yourself.  The path is not meant to be walked on alone.
  • The wilderness (kingdom) will rejoice!

December 4, 2016 – What Are You Waiting For?

Pastor Jeff Purganan

Scripture:

Key Points:

  • Key reason for following and believing is fear of failure.  Fear of being judged. We get to be people who carry the presence of God everywhere.
  • John expressed the sense of urgency in preparing the way for God’s coming to earth, in Jesus.
  • We need to anticipate the next weeks with a sense of preparation, rather than waiting.  We are not to be passive, ineffective people.
